about us

What is the Mission of Photo Scan Man?
In an economy with high unemployment, individuals with disabilities are often labeled as less desirable employees and struggle to support themselves. This is unfortunate because many adults with disabilities have been able to raise a family, run large companies as their CEO and become productive members of their community. Those with Asperger's Syndrome have an intense focus to solve problems with a fine attention to detail. These intelligent characteristics make them especially loyal and dedicated employees.
The College of New Jersey in Ewing has a special Career & Community Studies (CCS) liberal arts program that prepares young adults with these disabilities to be productive members of their community.
In an effort to help individuals with Asperger's Syndrome better adapt to a more competitive environment, Dr. Barbie Zimmerman-Bier and Steven Bier founded Photo Scan Man as a not-for-profit business on the campus of the College of New Jersey.
Photo Scan Man is a high quality photo scanning service that converts old photos & slides into digital images. Supervisors train and coach employees to perform their duties as well as acting as their support system. Employees carefully and meticulously scan each image for customers wishing to convert their old photos and movie film into brilliant digital images. Once the images are transferred to a CD or Flashdrive or DVD they are shipped to the customer along with their originals.
A major part of our mission is to provide employment opportunities for highly functioning adults with disabilities. Working alongside supervising technicians, we are able to provide jobs with a living wage, growth opportunities and a sense of pride for men and women that would otherwise have a hard time finding employment.
All of the profits from Photo Scan Man are donated to the Marvin & Shirley Bier Charitable Gift Fund which supports Autism advocacy and employment.
